• To what extent has text been part of your practice up to this point? When have you found it most effective?  
• Can you think of instances where your use of text – titles or captions perhaps – has ‘intimated’ too much for the viewer? Has text ever undermined your photographs?  

In a self-portrait project I started in 2019, I’ve captioned photographs with bits of lyrics. Some of the photographs were captioned in a rather indirect way (maybe inspired by a mood or even just the listening of a specific song that day), others have some sort of intentionally abstract or hidden meaning. Some, maybe, were captioned in a more straight forward – and less forcibly artsy – way. 

Still on the topic of captions, I vary wildly in the way I make use of them. At times, the captions aren’t directly tied to the photograph but express thoughts and feelings that I may be experiencing at the time. Sometimes they turn the photograph into a story and a window into my brain.

This is a good example of it.
